Re: [PFS NL] Re: Practical advice on staring a new PFS group (Groningen)

if they're experienced, it can be handy to just let them pick a pregen, and let them share control of the npc during combats.

#5-04 the stolen heir is a nice story one w/ some fun roleplay opportunities.
#5-19 the horn of aroden as well has some good roleplay opportunities and is kind of open.

The Confirmation has a bit of what you're looking for, but Wounded Wisp is a closer fit. That one's got a bit more story to it, while Confirmation is more like a graduation test.

I can also recommend The Night March of Kalkamedes. That one is IMO the best L1-5 published by Paizo. It's very good for new players because a lot of the obstacles require player ingenuity instead of advanced rules understanding ("how are we going to get Kalkamedes past this wilderniss obstacle"). It's a little harder for the GM because you have to adjudicate all the solutions the players try to come up with, so make sure to prepare for that. But it's really worth it, because it's both a cool story, with neat encounters, exciting stakes, and a very nice reward.

We've had our first session of Pathfinder yesterday. I thought it would be nice to give you folks an update.

I had four signups for this session: three veterans from the store's D&D evening and Klaas, who's also a member of this forum. Unfortunately we had one no-show, so we had to run the session with three players. All of them had prior experience in D&D and/or Pathfinder, so we were off without too much explanation of the rules. I found myself a bit rusty and didn't want to burden myself or the party with an NPC tag-along, so I kept it at three characters and gave myself some leeway in adjusting the combat difficulty.

I gave the players a short introduction on Golarion and on the pathfinder society, using the 'wrapper' for Silverhex that's on the PFSprep site. And then we were off. We ended up playing Mausoleum, Colony and crash. Some highlights below, for those interested.

I think the players had a good time and I enjoyed myself as well. We'll finish silverhex with the last three quests in two weeks time, hopefully with a couple more players. After that, we'll continue if everyone is still interested. Here's where I could use some suggestions, for scenarios. I have discounted First steps 1. I gave it a read-through, but it didn't really catch my fancy. Following Silverhex, I could use a scenario with a bit more flow to the story, instead of individual encounters. Ideally, I'd like scenarios that are a bit light on combat (especially complex tactical situations), have good roleplaying opportunities and that could be run in about three hours without pushing too hard. I've asked the players and it's been suggested to divide each scenario over two evening, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible (in particular since we're only playing every other week).
Do Wounded Wisp and Comfirmation fall in that category? Any other suggestions for scenarios I could look into?

Now, the promised highlights (spoilers, of course):
- The party wanted to trick the priest in Colony, feigning illness and asking him to come to them. Of course, Folloch wanted an audience for his miracles and brought them out to the stage for the entire town to see. The party was ready the worst and braced to roll Will saves when they approached the stage. :)
- Afterwards, the party cleric mentioned something about keeping Folloch alive. The gunslinger promptly rolled a crit, for 4d8 on the poor fellow. Needless to say, they didn't catch him alive... Kyra's player made a nice show afterwards of turning the townsfolk to the light.
- In crash, the player's weren't eager to part with their loot, but they weren't anxious for a fight as well. They suggested a duel between the Kellid rager and Valeros. I mentioned that she looked pretty capable in combat, but Valeros decided he was up for the task. The bracer he put on might have had something to do with it as well. Still, the rager got the drop on him and took out most of the shield in one hit. Both duelists dealt two heavy hits, and then the rager was at -4 while Valeros was left standing at 3 health. The other two Kellid weren't so eager to get into combat after that. Kyra stabilized the barbarian and then the party was off with their loot.
